I FEEL that I must, at last, express my total support for the many letters I have read concerning the appalling state of public conveniences in Weymouth.
From the appearance of almost every convenience I have used, it would seem that Weymouth and Portland Borough Council have completely abandoned their responsibility for maintenance of these facilities.
I agree with the views of Tony Straw (Your Say, August 10) – why must free toilets have to equate to such very poor quality toilets?
Why do the council not ensure that the people they employ to clean and maintain them do their job properly?
That means actually visiting them!
The council are responsible for the long-term decay of these facilities.
If it is necessary to start charging 20p, I would not object if they were just a little more pleasant to use.
