WEYMOUTH bikers are gearing up for a ride out with a difference.

Members of the Weymouth Bike Night team will be riding to the South West Motorcycle Show in Exeter on Sunday, August 29.

The bikers will roar off from the Pavilion Theatre car park at 9am and travel via Dorchester and West Bay, gathering numbers as they go.

The team had been planning a celebration following their successful move from the Nothe Fort to the Pavilion theatre on Thursday nights.

Bikers from all over the county recently took part in a ride out to raise money for threatened special needs play school Dorchester Opportunity Group. The event raised £100 and organisers are hoping to emulate the success with their latest ride.

Organiser Brian Coombes said that they had seen an increase in bikers since moving to the Pavilion.

He said: “It’s been great. We have had over 100 people to both weeks. A lot of bikers were put off by the gravel on the way to the Nothe Fort, but the Pavilion gives us some great hard standing.

“We are planning lots of events and rides and there will be lots of things happening this summer.”

He added: “The council have been excellent and helped us by putting out barricades and signs warning motorists in the car park that it will be shut between 5.30pm to 9pm for us.”
