LAST Sunday evening I had reason to visit the crypt of Holy Trinity Church, which is used every Sunday by the Sunday school and during the week for other functions.
At the bottom of the stairs the stench was horrendous and left me feeling nauseous – and the smell was emanating from the passageway passing under the Chapelhay steps.
Since the closure of the toilets, this area is now being used as a substitute toilet and not just for urinating. The same goes for the council car park, which my wife was unfortunately subjected to one afternoon.
The majority of councillors voted for the closure of these toilets, it is also their responsibility to maintain the cleanliness in these areas.
Closing toilets may save money, but that money now needs to be redirected to clean, and keep them clean at all times.
We hear a lot about health and safety from the council, and this situation will affect the health and safety of all who use the crypt of the church, and the area.
Hon Alderman Peter Rendall, Kings Road, Radipole, Weymouth.
