Dorset Police are advising motorists against travelling on the A35 through Chideock during planned protests this week.

Another anti-speed protest is planned between 2pm and 3pm on Friday.

It is the latest in a series of protests against traffic pollution and the presence of HGVs on the A35.

Campaigners repeatedly press the button on a pedestrian crossing bringing traffic to a halt and angering motorists.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “As with all lawful protests, Dorset Police has been working with the organisers to ensure public safety.

“Officers will be in attendance on Friday, to ensure that there are no breaches of the peace and that there is no risk to the safety of road users or pedestrians.”

Inspector Caroline Naughton of Bridport Police added: “Through the Partners and Communities Together (PACT) forum, the issues raised by the A35 Action Group are being addressed.

“I have outlined my concerns to the group over the impact that this protest will have on congestion and access along the A35 by all road users including the emergency services, and the impact on the local community “However they have decided to continue with their course of action”.
