HEALTH bosses apologised in person to patients in Dorchester for unacceptable delays in receiving pain relief injections.

Members of the board of NHS Dorset said that they accepted that the waits were unacceptable when they held their annual meeting and a question time session at the Corn Exchange. Now they have sent out a letter of apology to all patients and said there will be clinics in Blandford and more sessions at the Dorset County Hospital for 1,000 plus patients.

The comments came after Peter Watson, of Manor Road, Dorchester, said his wife Judith dropped off the list because she had been waiting for so long – 19 months – and has to go in for a re-assessment.

He said: “It is an absolute disgrace. I have the greatest respect for the consultant but it is a bureaucratic shambles in the background.”

Dr David Phillips, NHS Dorset director of public health, said: “People have been waiting for unacceptably long times and we just want to apologise for that.”

The questions came after a presentation to about 50 people at an annual meeting.

Campaigners Colin and Diana Smith, of Weymouth, also asked about the next steps.

Dr Phillips said that those on the list longest would probably take priority.
