- SEVERAL weeks ago 13th Weymouth Girl Guides went to the River Dart country park in Devon for a week‘s camp. The theme of the week was pirates.
There was a wide range of activities for the girls to join in with including a high ropes course, arts and crafts, and canoeing.
Mid week the girls enjoyed an outing to Paignton Zoo.
The camp was a huge success and all the girls had a great time.
Contact lorcharnock@sky.com for further details of the group which meets in Moose Lodge, Chickerell Road.
- Wyke Artysouls group evolved from an art class started over five years ago by Debbie Veitch. Members are showing their paintings to the public for the first time in an exhibition called 'Art and Soul', to be held at Strangways Hall, Abbotsbury, from Tuesday, August 17 to Sunday, August 22. The exhibition is open from 10.30am to 5.30pm and shows that anyone who wants to paint can fulfil their dream.
It also shows that amateur artists are just as good as the ‘professionals‘. Each painter within the group has had their own personal journey of development and their passion for being creative is very evident.
The class started with a mixture of abilities from those who secretly wanted to paint but didn’t know how to, to those who simply needed a boost in confidence and motivation.
Exhibiting their work for the first time is a major step and both daunting and exciting.

- THE teddy bears family picnic in Wyke gardens started as planned but a downpour at 11.30am meant that all the visitors had gone home by noon and the organisers decided to call it a day.
Frustratingly an hour or so afterwards the sun came out again and the sky cleared for a lovely afternoon.
What a shame, as everyone was enjoying themselves until the deluge and there were about 40 people in the garden at one time. However, everyone then got soaked through and had to go home to dry off. Not good weather for teddy bears.
The event raised about £20, which wasn't bad going for just one hour of partying in the park. Hopefully the weather will be kinder next time.
