A CAR crashed into wall on one of Weymouth’s busiest roads during rush hour traffic yesterday.

Witnesses told how the silver Audi A4 car travelling along Portland Road clipped an white Astra estate car and spun across a pavement before colliding into a garden wall just after 5.30pm.

The Audi’s Weymouth woman driver and male passenger were treated by ambulance crew at the scene. The woman driver of the Astra was uninjured, police said.

Officers directed traffic but queues of vehicles were backed up to Lanehouse Rocks Road.

Witnesses Barry McSherry, 47 and his son Lewis, 19, described watching the car spin several times before settling with smoke pouring out of it.

Lewis McSherry added: “It was lucky that no one was walking along the pavement at the time.”

PC Nick Gravenor, of Weymouth police, said: “The woman driver of the silver car has been arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.”
