POLICE have warned office workers in Dorchester to keep an eye on their belongings after two purse thefts in the town.
A woman had her purse taken from her handbag at the Colliton Club on Wednesday and money was subsequently taken from her account.
On the same day, a purse was stolen from a bag at Dorset County Hospital and the victim was later phoned by someone claiming to be from her bank.
The thief was able to get the woman’s bank details over the phone and withdraw cash.
Inspector Les Fry of Dorchester Police said: “We would ask that people never give personal details out over the phone unless they are happy and satisfied they are genuinely calling from the bank.”
Insp Fry said the two thefts could not be connected at this stage, but warned people to look after their personal belongings.
He said: “People in offices need to be aware that offenders will target personal belongings left unattended and we ask people to think about the security of their personal items at all times.”
Witnesses to either of the thefts are asked to contact Dorchester Police on 01305 222222.
