WEYMOUTH’S Sea Life Park will be holding a number of turtle conservation weeks throughout the summer.

A conservation organisation, Earth Sea and Sky, has teamed up with the attraction to raise awareness of turtle protection.

Earth Sea and Sky, alongside the sea life centre at Lodmoor, has launched the SOS programme.

It is an appeal to help fund a new rescue centre for turtles on the Greek island of Zakynthos.

The goal is to raise £350,000 to build a sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre. The centre will ensure that injured turtles receive immediate medical treatment from specialist marine vets and rehabilitation before releasing them back into the ocean.

According to Earth Sea and Sky, work with sea turtles is becoming increasingly popular with the appearance of the creatures at Sea Life Centres across Europe.

The whole family can take part in the conservation weeks that will be taking place until August 15.

Activities running include a sight stall where visitors can look through the eyes of a turtle, a ‘save the turtle show’ where people can learn about the biggest dangers to the turtle’s survival and a fun quiz trail with the chance to win a prize.

There will also be interesting talks on turtle conservation that will tell how to help.

Normal entry fees apply and prices can be found on the Sea Life Park website at sealife.co.uk
