I READ in the Echo that the convoy of four police vehicles, plus motorcycle, we witnessed on Wednesday speeding through Chiswell were escorting an injured YOI inmate to the minor injuries unit on Portland.
What was the big rush about?
Surely if the injury was life or death he should have been airlifted to DCH.
It’s an unbelievable situation, especially at this time when police resources are said to be stretched.
My main reason for this letter is to complain about the excessive speed at which these vehicles travelled through Chiswell, with the motorbike going even faster and overtaking the whole line.
Any child, elderly person or really anyone crossing the road would not have stood a chance.
This is a built-up residential area with a high percentage of young children and also many visitors who seem to think this is a sleepy little part of Portland and are often wandering across the road.
For the police to refuse to give any information is just not good enough when the lives of the public are put at risk.
Although of course I wouldn’t wish for the inmate to have had life threatening injuries, for the police to endanger so many lives, they should surely have a very good reason for acting in this way.
