BUILDERS working on a major project in Weymouth have warned children to keep out of construction sites.
Morgan Sindall, which is behind a £6.5million scheme to build a new fire station in Weymouth, has issued the plea.
Area director Paul Gale, who lives in Weymouth, said: “Construction sites are extremely dangerous places for unsupervised children and we are urging the community to help us ensure youngsters are not tempted to play on sites this summer. Everyone who works on a construction site undergoes health and safety training and wears full protective clothing.
“Children who enter sites are putting their lives at risk.”
Morgan Sindall is building the new fire station on the site of the former Westhaven Junior School in Radipole Lane, Weymouth, for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.
Materials from the school, which has been demolished to make way for the new facility, have been saved and will be used in the construction of the fire station, reducing the carbon footprint of the project.
As well as acting as a working fire station, the building will also house a community centre which will actively seek to encourage local people to take advantage of health and safety training.
Work on the project is due to be completed in June, 2011.
