THE Red Arrows WILL be at Weymouth Carnival.

Event organisers breathed a sign of relief after the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic display team were given the green light to fly.

The team had been grounded for over a week on orders of the Ministry of Defence after an ejector seat fault was found in the type of Hawk jet used by the ‘Reds’, resulting in all the planes being inspected.

Organisers wondered if the ban would be lifted by the time Weymouth Carnival was held on August 18.

Pressure was on military chiefs to make a decision as the team were due to perform tonight on the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week. They also have a date in Dorset on Saturday – for Swanage Regatta and Carnival.

Red Arrows crew have been enjoying their summer break during the past week so their display programme hasn’t been affected.

An MoD spokesman said: “The Red Arrows are now free to continue their flying programme after a decision was taken regarding the Hawk jets.”

Rotary carnival chairman Rob Sedgbeer said: “We’re obviously delighted.

“We knew it would be all right and the Red Arrows wouldn’t let us down. They’re one of carnival’s biggest draws.”
