A PUBLIC exhibition beginning today will unveil plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment of Brewers Quay.
Developers wish to transform the Weymouth harbourside leisure and shopping complex into a 90-room hotel, restaurant, apartment and shop complex in time for the Olympics.
The newly-formed Brewers Quay LLP, backed by a consortium of investors, will show off plans for the scheme on the first floor of Brewers Quay today (2pm-7.30pm), tomorrow (2pm-5.30pm) and Saturday (2pm-5.30pm).
Developer Richard Stroud said many of the existing traders will become part of the new scheme.
“Some of the existing tenants will fit very well into the scheme, others will not. At the moment we have a real hotchpotch of tenants in there with a double glazing company next to a hairdressers.
“It’s down to the agent whether rents are raised but there will be a number of units appropriate for all retailers.”
Mr Stroud said he and his team had faith in investing in Weymouth.
“Weymouth is a place that is receiving attention at the moment and Brewers Quay itself is a fantastic building.
“It’s been left to go to ruin recently and it’s a shame because it’s in the prettiest part of town.
“In terms of people coming to the hotel and parking, there are two car parks and every time I have seen them there are an extra 90 spaces in each of them.”
The 16 apartments in the scheme will be for residential and holiday let use, Mr Stroud added.
There are also plans to attract a small supermarket to the development.
Comments from visitors to the exhibition will be welcomed ahead of a planning application being submitted to Weymouth and Portland Borough Council by August 27.
If the application is successful, it is hoped that work will begin by early 2011. The exhibition will be sign posted from the main entrance of Brewers Quay.
