I REFER to the Weymouth seafront situation in that lasers may be shining out from tall steel columns.
We are dismayed at this latest insult on Weymouth.
We are a traditional seaside town, with fabulous architecture and traditional features along the Esplanade.
Does Dorset County Council want us to look like a laughing stock?
All that money has been spent on renovating the shelters, which look fabulous, only to waste money on getting rid of our fairy lights and seafront lights.
The replacements will make us look cheap and nasty and will certainly not be in keeping with the Georgian seafront.
There is no substance behind the suggestion that the current style is outdated, expensive and non eco-friendly.
Are we to assume that if this is the case Blackpool will no longer have its illuminations and Brighton will be taking down its seafront street lamps? We are sure they will not.
The sooner we can stop this ridiculous unnecessary change the better.
We need to stand up to the changes, which keep being imposed on us, before we become an ‘any other’ town.
