WEYMOUTH’S Hope Square will be turned into a one-way system following a raft of complaints from local businesses over ‘inconsiderate’ parking.
Traffic will be allowed to travel northbound only through the square towards the town bridge from Saturday. Vehicles, including deliveries, wishing to access the area will need to travel up Boot Hill and drive down Rodwell Avenue Dorset County Council’s strategic projects manager Matthew Piles said: “When the transport package works started in June, Hope Square was made two-way to ensure local residents could still easily access the town and that business deliveries could operate as usual.
“However, businesses in the square have expressed their concern over pedestrian safety and there are increasing reports of badly parked vehicles causing unacceptable delays.
“Although the two-way system did work for the majority of the time, because we are entering the peak season for visitors the time has come to change the traffic management.”
The one-way system will be in place until Boot Hill reopens to two-way traffic later this year but will be reviewed again.
