MUSIC and competitions will be among the attractions at a charity fun day in Dorchester’s Antelope Walk.

Traders have joined forces to stage the first event of its kind in the town centre shopping arcade on Satur-day, August 7, from 9am onwards.

The Antelope Walk Event Team have organised the extravaganza in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

David Taylor, who is chairman of the Antelope Walk Event Team, and is organising the day with Bruce Kimber, of Naturalife Foods, and Clare Stokes, of Robin James Salon, said: “The event is to raise substantial charity funds for Weldmar. In particular it is for the Joseph Weld Hospice, which is highly regarded as a special friend of Dorchester.

“The entire walk will be decked out with bunting and flags and both entrances will be well signed with large banners.”

The event will start at 9am and Mayor Les Phillips will arrive at 10am, followed by music from Jack Daniels and Benny Wain.

Dowey’s Daughters will play at 10.30am, followed by Big Al Whittle at 12noon, No Fixed Abode at 1.30pm and Ansell and Gretel at 3pm.

Weldmar are helping out and will be displaying bunting in their colours. Shops have donated to the entertainment fund for the day and will have collection containers inside their premises.

There will also be displays and events throughout the day with proceeds to Weldmar.

They will include demonstrations of cookery equipment and gadgets and coffee tasting at Owen and Simpson cook shop.

Staff at the Robin James Salon will be serving iced tea and giving massages.

Orchid Clothing will have a summer theme of flowers and butterflies with raffle prizes.

There will be discounts at Harpers Barber Shop and tips given will go to the charity.

Oak Tearooms are holding a raffle and treasure hunt.

Staff at County Shoes will be dressing up in Disney theme and there will also be a competition and face painting.

Naturalife are offering discounts, tea and chocolate tasting and product sampling.

Make-up artist Claire Perry will be at Figure Eight and there will be an afternoon photo shoot.

Joshuas are staging tasters, offers and a donation of sales.

Mirari Ltd is offering discounts, holding a raffle and giving away goodies. Cornish Pasties are baking a giant pastie with a guess the weight contest.

The Dorset Echo will have a stand with goodie bags while the tourist information centre will be running a children’s hunt.

The Body Shop are holding in-store promotions and Stems are offering discounts.

Radio Solent and Wessex FM are also supporting the event.
