I have to take issue with the letter ‘Cut the county’s top management’ from Vicki Black (Your Say, July 22).

Firstly she states ‘most of us hope and imagine those cuts will be at the expense of superfluous levels of management, exorbitant consultancy fees and fact finding expeditions’.

Secondly she states, ‘you will be told, no doubt, this is all the fault of our profligate previous government’.

What hypocritical statements.

The last Labour Government spent more money on superfluous management, exorbitant consultancy and ‘fact finding’ expeditions than any other in history.

She claims that public services are the best they have ever been in our history.

This is questionable – but what isn’t questionable is the fact that the past government spent money that they didn’t have in delivering these services.

Those of us that have to live on a fixed income and do not have the benefit of MPs expenses have to manage our financial affairs within our means and cannot run our lives on unlimited credit.

Public services are important but they have to be affordable. One cannot give without collecting the funds elsewhere.

I would be grateful if Ms Black would provide one example of a Labour government that has not left the country deeply in debt.

It would also be beneficial if she could provide details of socialist MPs/Ministers who have capitalised on their governmental financial gains and donated to the poor.
