- ARTSREACH has two activities coming up, all at the Village Hall and focusing on cooking!
On Friday, August 6 there will be a Chinese Cooking Workshop, lasting from 10am – 1pm.
“Cooking with Chocolate” is the promising title of the second workshop, taking place on the same day.
It will last from 2pm – 5pm.
The morning session will involve creating a meal to be eaten at lunchtime, the afternoon will be spent making goodies to take home!
The children, however, need not do both sessions.
The cost is £ 10 per session which is inclusive of all ingredients.
An intriguing workshop of a completely different nature is coming up on Tuesday, August 24.
It is called “Write a Song” and will last from 10:30am – 3:30pm.
A performance will take place at 3:15pm.
Participating children are asked to write a song or a poem which will be transformed into a song during the course of the session.
Anyone playing an instrument can bring that as well.
Backing tracks will be sorted out at the computer, all your ideas are welcome!
The cost for the day is £ 15.
Any adults wanting to be there and assist the children should come forward please.
You must be CRB checked and ideally have an interest in cooking or music.
Your cooperation is very important for these events to happen so please get in touch with Susie Thorpe on 01300 341238.
If you are interested in helping with future events please also let Susie know since CRB checks take time but can be done in advance.
- MUSIC Festival: Don’t miss an unusual performance on Saturday, August 7!
Accordionist Pete Rosser will join the excellent Gaudier Ensemble for a late night concert of tango dance music!
Robert Philip, writer and broadcaster, will be talking about the Festival’s musical highlights on Thursday, August 5.
He is a highly entertaining speaker, the talk is scheduled for 5pm at the church – don’t miss it!
Tickets for these and all events of the Music Festival can be obtained from the Box Office at 7 Barton Farm or by phoning 01300 341311.
- FLY Tipping: The Parish Council is asking everyone to keep an eye out on fly tipping in the area, there have been a few complaints.
Please inform West Dorset District Council on 01305 251010 if you are observing any such practices since fly tipping is illegal and a criminal offence.

- FLOWER arrangers – where are you?
New members to join a jolly team are needed – could it be you?
Do you live in the village or close by and enjoy making arrangements in your own home?
Why not try and do the same for your local church, it need only be a few times a year!
It isn’t an onerous task and plenty of training will be given.
Please contact Doug on 01300 345341 or Sue on 01300 345586 as soon as possible since your first opportunity could be this month!

- A NEW website has been created for the village!
In recent weeks, the village website has received a thorough makeover with easier navigation and more varied content!
It is well worth a visit whether you are a resident or someone close by or perhaps someone with a connection to the village!
It is also worth mentioning that the website has a village shop.
I am sure many of you buy from Amazon occasionally for example.
This can of course be done in the usual way.
If it goes through the village website, however, a credit is being paid to the village.
This then mounts up and those credits are paid out to the Village Playgroup.
You can imagine that they mount up, last year they came to a bit over £ 130!
So please do your shopping that way, it is hoped that one or two other online shopping features will be added.
Go check it out – www.sydlingstnicholas.org.uk.
