NEW work is to be carried out to boost wildlife on the Millstream in Dorchester, councillors heard.

Dorset Wildlife Trust is set to implement the bio-diversity enhancement scheme for 430metres between Hangman’s Hatches and River View.

It will involve building up parts of the banks and river bed to put in new plants.

Members of Dorchester Town Council’s management committee welcomed the move.

Committee chairman Andy Canning said work is due to start in the autumn.

He also told members that work has started on repairing and replacing footpaths alongside the Millstream.

Coun Molly Rennie said: “This is excellent and is to be welcomed.”
