Abbotsbury and Langton Herring
Abbotsbury
LILIES were everywhere on the annual Abbotsbury Residents Corps (ARC) over ‘70s resident’s outing on Tuesday, July 20
Bennett’s Water Garden in Chickerell was the destination.
19 residents and ARC members set off on a misty afternoon for their trip to the water gardens with a cream tea afterwards.
Thankfully the mist soon cleared.
The resident’s were transported to Chickerell in the Dorset Association for the Disabled minibus with Peter as their driver.
The gardens, which were founded in 1959 on the site of the old Putton brickworks, are now a delight with various ponds containing about 130 varieties of water lilies so one of the staff told me.
Lilies of all colours and sizes were in bloom.
Bennett’s holds the National collection of them.
Many of the original lilies planted here came from the artist Monet’s garden in Giverny, France.
With level paths around the ponds, walking was made easy and everyone enjoyed the gardens.
Thanks go to ARC for organising this lovely treat for our elderly residents.
