THIS year’s Camp Bestival is close to selling out with the organisers raring to go and hoping the festival has a long future in Dorset.
The music festival will enjoy its third year at Lulworth Castle at the end of the month with something for everyone planned for the three-day event.
This year a wide range of bands, old and new, will again appear in front of the castle alongside children’s performers and a host of comedians and other acts.
Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank and his wife Josie started Camp Bestival to enjoy a festival that they could take their own children to and this year’s line up shows that inspiration still holds true.
BBC children’s television character Mr Tumble will be in Dorset again after wowing the children last year and alongside Rob there are other DJs that will keep dance music fans satisfied.
Rob said: “It’s a difficult programme to set up because of the different ages and different entertainment.
“You’ve got to get things on at the right time for everyone with kids.”
The bands Madness, The Blockheads and the Fall will appear, as well as former Soft Cell front man Marc Almond to give fans of older music plenty to see.
Then there will be newer acts like Ellie Goulding and Friendly Fires.
Rob said the variation is intended to satisfy parents and their kids.
He said: “That’s the thinking. It’s something for everyone.
“We’ve got Human League and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic for people in their 30s and 40s and Friendly Fires for people in their 20s and early 30s.”
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall this week confirmed he will again host a River Cottage food tent at Camp Bestival.
Rob said the celebrity chef will hold a ‘how to become a chef’ session and cooking workshops.
This year’s Dorset Unsigned Music Awards winner Achilles Sound will also appear on the main stage.
Rob said Camp Bestival will include as many local foods and products as possible to make the event ‘a local celebration’.
And he confirmed he is hoping to keep the event going at Lulworth Castle.
He said: “It’s got to go on and on because we’ve invested a lot of time and love into it and we definitely took a risk setting it up.
“You don’t need to get much wrong for it not to be popular. But I’m really positive. It’s the third year and we are definitely going to sell out. We are really pleased with the way it’s gone.”
Camp Bestival is at Lulworth Castle on Friday, July 30, Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1.
