The Preston Playgroup marked the end of another year with a ‘Pirates and Princesses’ party for the children and parents at Preston Village Hall
Everyone had a wonderful time, and I am sure you agree that the pirates look very fierce while the princesses look really beautiful!
Despite the party atmosphere there was just a tinge of sadness at the event, for the Playgroup were also saying good-bye to no less than twenty youngsters who will be moving on to school in September.
The Playgroup is looking forward to returning after the summer break, for there will be some new staff members in the team and even a new name, which will be Preston Pre-School.
As usual they will be meeting for five sessions a week at the Village Hall, and there are still some places available for the September term, so if you are interested give Helen a call on 07826018677 for more information.
The St Andrew’s School 200 club held the July draw in Mrs Jackson’s year 1 class.
The first prize of £50, drawn by Rosie Warren, went to Wendy Carter; the £30 prize, drawn by Charlie Bishop, went to Beverley Scott; the £15 prize, drawn by Megan Peaty, to Julia Cohen.
This monthly draw helps to supply facilities for the children in the school, so if you would like to take part give Mel (832467) a call.
The Preston Village Market had just a few less stalls and visitors in June, but there was the usual friendly buzz of conversation and activity, and they still managed to raise £112 for charity.
This will be split between the Race for Life, raising money to fund the fight against cancer, and Soccer Aid 2010, a UNICEF charity which focuses on children and child rights around the world.
The next Market will take place on Saturday, 7 August between 10am and 12.30pm in the Church Rooms, Preston. Do come and see what we have to offer and receive a warm welcome. Refreshments available.
The Sutton Poyntz Society are once again organising their enormously popular Cream Tea afternoon in the Mission Hall orchard.
This will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, 31 July between 3pm and 4.30pm and is sure to be blessed with hot sunshine for you to enjoy your delicious cream scones in good company under the sun dappled trees.
Even if my confidence about the weather is misplaced there is always the Hall itself as back-up. The cost is a very reasonable £2 a head, so don’t miss this delightful village event.
