Dorset residents can get their archaeological finds identified at a special roadshow at Dorchester Library between 10am and 1pm on Tuesday, July 27.
This free drop-in event is a chance for visitors to find out what their finds are and how they contribute to knowledge of the county’s past.
Roadshow visitors will also be able to see and handle a range of archaeological objects and maritime finds, make themed badges and explore the library’s resources on history and archaeology.
Ciorstaidh Hayward-Trevarthen, the Dorset County Council finds liaison officer, and Gordon Le Pard, an historic environment assistant, will be on hand to help identify items.
Ciorstaidh said: “If anyone has any archaeological finds they would like identified and recorded, we would encourage them to bring them along.
“Objects from before 1650 will be recorded – and not just metal ones – as part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
The scheme records thousands of items of pottery and flint, metal objects and other finds each year.
Roadshow visitors can also explore their own past using the library’s Ancestry online resource.
