TWO people were injured in a two-car crash on the A35.

The road was closed in both directions following the smash near Chideock yesterday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following a call at 5.40pm from a member of the public at the crash scene.

The incident happened at Chideock Hill close to Eype and the road was blocked in both directions. Ambulance and fire crews and police officers attended the scene. The two drivers were both taken to Dorset County Hospital but their injuries are not believed to be serious.

A motorist who was caught up in the chaos said: “The police closed the road at the Crown roundabout at Bridport and everyone heading west was having to head through the back roads which get blocked up with any volume of traffic.”

A police spokesman said: “Two vehicles were involved in the incident, a VW Polo and a Peugeot 306. Police put up diversion signs at Miles Cross and Bridport to ease the flow of traffic. The road was opened by 7.15pm”
