FIRST-TIME mum Hannah Milligan has described her newborn daughter as ‘perfect.’ Little Laurena Lacey Cairns was born at Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, in June, weighing just 5lb 13oz.
Since coming back to the family home on Portland Laurena has been gaining weight and been fussed over by her family.
Dorset County Hospital staff nurse Hannah, 24, said: “She was born quite little.
“I have a medical condition called Factor five Leiden thrombophilia, which is a blood clotting disorder that means you’re more likely to have a smaller baby.
“But she’s put on weight now and is up to 6lb and half an ounce and she’s perfect.
“She came on her due date although she took a long time to get here.
“I went into labour on Sunday night and she didn’t come until Tuesday morning – 30 hours in labour.”
Hannah lives with her partner Michael Cairns, 27, who works as a laminator at Sunseekers on the island, and his two sons from a previous relationship Jack, seven and Freddie, five.
Hannah added: “Freddie keeps kissing Laurena and I don’t think Jack can believe how much she sleeps.
“She sleeps really well and wakes up every four hours or so to feed.
“We had hoped for a girl to kind of even out the family and we might have one more. I’m loving being a mother and I still can’t quite believe it – every time I look at her I want to cry.
“We’ve had lots of visitors and she’s been really spoiled. She’s only a few days old and she’s already got more clothes than me.”
