WE interviewed students who showed an interest in radio journalism.

The overall views of the students were that of thorough enjoyment and a keen interest in pursuing a career in this area of work. We interviewed Ella Walmsley and Chloe Wellaway, both 15, from All Saints School. They both agreed that they had a great time during the workshop and that it gave them an insight into the work of a radio journalist.

*Students who wanted to build a house or learn how to survey land had a great opportunity to do it at Weymouth College.

Enthusiasm filled the room as students got to try their hand at using and setting up a total station. Expert lecturers taught the talented students what the job entailed and how they could gain a position in this industry in years to come.

James Hawsford, 14, from Woodroffe School found this day ‘an excellent experience’ where he gained ‘valuable experience for his future aspiration’.

*Honor Govan, 15, from the Thomas Hardye School took part in a beauty activity at Weymouth College. She says that the activities she participated in were very enjoyable.

She said: “It has helped me to be more creative with the art of nail designing.” Honor believes that this activity may be suitable as her future career as she likes socialising with others around her and designing new arts.

Honor was painting Willow Burton’s finger nails and said she ‘likes being creative with nails and her nail art has improved’.

*In the events promotion workshop, the pupils were eagerly discussing the prospect of organising their own fantasy event.

This workshop gave an interesting insight into the world of events promotion. Students were made to think of the behind the scene aspects of the event, not just the finished product.

A budding events promoter from All Saints, Jess Clarke, told us: “We planned a fictional birthday party for Simon Cowell, with special celebrity guests and performances. If I had the chance, I would love to make this a reality!”

Also, we interviewed a very enthusiastic Amanda Simmonds, 15, from Budmouth. She explained to us: “I found this session really fun, the teacher is very inspiring, he has definitely convinced me to think about this as a career.”
