I REFER to the article ‘Anger of residents close to Weymouth Relief Road’ (Echo, July 7) and subsequent comments from readers.

I would like to set the record straight for those unsympathetic readers who have no idea how this project is affecting on those residents who are living near the construction, which is virtually on our doorsteps.

I have every respect for Skanska, the main contractor. They have a job to do and they appear to be doing it well.

For the readers who consider us to be whingers and moaners - we have good reason to be.

May I remind the ones that have obviously been living under a bush for the past 10 to 12 years that the Orange Route, which is now the relief road, was shelved in or about 2000 and the Brown Route was adopted.

I purchased my property in 2001 when the Orange Route was shelved.

In 2003 I moved to Chickerell and placed my Finches property on the market.

After three and a half years my property remained unsold, as a result of the proposed road.

I had no choice but sell my Chickerell home and move back to The Finches.

So do not refer to me and other frustrated property owners as moaners and whingers.

We may be retired, but all our working lives we have saved for our retirement homes only to have them now rendered worthless.
