I BELIEVE the majority of local people are in favour of having replacement council offices, but, in the same breath, the majority are not in favour of the proposed plans being in the Charles Street development at all.

I believe the majority are in favour of an all new shopping centre on its own, with retail facilities, a public relaxing and enjoyment area with restaurants, coffee shop etc (as it will be the hub of Dorchester) and with adequate parking (preferable underground).

It would also free up extra building area for shops.

I believe there are three strong objections for not building the proposed new council offices on this site which are as follows: 1. It would be out of character and not profit making.

2. It would be taking up valuable retail space.

3. It would be taking up essential car parking spaces.

Prognosis is: More car parking spaces and in return more people to spend money.

Surely new council offices could be sited anywhere locally, but definitely not in the heart of historic Dorchester. Perhaps Poundbury?
