ARCHITECTURE campaigners and a borough councillor warned the building’s ‘skeleton’ would be an eyesore if left unfinished.
Councillor Ray Banham, a member of the borough council’s planning and traffic committee, said: “We’ve got to somehow find another developer to take over and finish it.
“There’s an awful lot of housing there for people to go into, that’s what we want.
“It’s a great pity that have had to go into administration but who wants to see a skeleton of a building, two-thirds completed standing there for any length of time? It’s not good to see.
“Obviously it’s not going to be a five minute thing to get sorted but hopefully it will be done as soon as possible so we can get the development on its way again and completed.”
The chairman of Weymouth Civic Society, Michael Martin, said: “They got planning approval for two extra flats there earlier this year, which we had opposed.
“It would certainly give a bad impression if we have unfinished properties in the town, people would think ‘What’s going on?’ or rather ‘What’s not going on?’ “I presume the receivers will continue with the plans, that would be the assumption.
“But we’ll have to wait and see what’s going to happen.”
