STEVE Riley was happy with a point after Bashley's Ryman Division One clash at Cray Wanderers ended in a pulsating 2-2 draw, writes Steve Wilson.

The Bash player-boss saw his men respond from a half-time 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead through Richard Gillespie and substitute James Totczyk, only to be pegged back by Wanderers.

Riley said: "It was probably a fair result and an excellent game for the neutrals.

"Away from home, you would have taken a point before the game. We might have done enough to have won the game but I was happy with the effort and commitment."

Riley, who was ruled out with a thigh problem, was also denied the services of defender Josh Thomas who went down with a virus.

That saw Gary Lorimer handed a debut at right-back after agreeing a switch from Lymington Town late last week.

Cray took a first-half lead when David Elm, back in goal at the expense of the unlucky Stacey Harper, was slow off his line and was comfortably rounded by Jon Main for the opener.

Riley said: "Elmo held his hands up for that one because he was a bit slow to react. I brought him back in to give us that bit of presence and he did well apart from that.

"It was harsh on Stacey, but we have two very good goalkeepers at the club and he will get his chance again."

Bash hit back after the break as Gillespie fired an equaliser and the New Foresters looked to be heading for three points when Totczyk volleyed home from close range, shortly after replacing hamstring injury victim Neil Morant.

But Wanderers roared back almost instantly to pinch a leveller to leave it at honours even.

Bashley: Elm, Lorimer (Neville, 80), Parnell, Gazzard, Morant (Totczyk, 75), Kabir, Culliford, Rink, Wilson, Saunders, Gillespie. Unused subs: Harper, Anderson.
