CONCERNED residents are due to meet with police chiefs and youth leaders this week in a bid to tackle problems of antisocial behaviour on the streets of Colehill.

The meeting comes in the wake of a string of complaints, particularly from people living in the area of the Reef youth centre.

East Dorset's antisocial behaviour co-ordinator, Bob Bailey, said: "We have invited along the residents who have complained.

"We want their perceptions and ideas.

"We are hoping to get a package of measures and proposals to try and alleviate some of the problems."

Wednesday evening's meeting comes just days after a £6,000 mobile youth shelter was erected in the grounds of the Reef.

Mr Bailey added: "We purchased it through Community Safety Home Office funding and feel this is a suitable place to site it."

Last month the Daily Echo reported how groups of up to 80 youngsters of mixed ages gathered on the streets, mainly on Friday evenings.

Reports of antisocial behaviour to the police include youths obstructing pavements, intimidating and threatening local residents, loitering in the road, littering and causing a general nuisance.

Earlier this year, officers produced a video showing antisocial behaviour in the area, which was shown to parents in a bid to get their support.

The meeting will be chaired by Cllr Janet Dover and some of the other agencies that will be attending will include community services as well as some representatives from the parish council.
