A TRADERS' group is re-forming to breathe fresh life into Weymouth Harbour ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
Businesses across the town are being urged to join the new Harbour Traders' Association and put forward improvement plans for the area.
A lack of support led to the decline of the association 10 years ago.
Group chairman Pete Ledger said: "We feel it's time that local businesses should get together and speak with one voice. At the moment there isn't a way for us to put across our views as a group of traders.
"We want to restart the association now because it is such an exciting time for the town, especially in the lead up to the Olympic sailing events.
"It's important to make sure we are pulling in the right direction and organising ourselves for the Games.
"Weymouth is on the up and we can make it even better."
He believes the multi-million pound development of Weymouth Pavilion will also boost trade in the town.
Mr Ledger, who owns The Crow's Nest caf, Hope Square, said 15 traders - including restaurateurs, boat operators and hairdressers -have already signed up as members.
He is calling on other business owners and managers to attend the association's first meeting at Brewers Quay at 3pm tomorrow.
"Although members are predominantly from harbourside businesses, we would like traders from the rest of the town to get involved," added Mr Ledger.
"The first meeting will discuss the association's aims and objectives, marketing initiatives, event organisation, lobbying activities and membership benefits. We also want to build consultation between local businesses and the council."
"The harbour is a key focus point for the whole town. We have a fantastic marina and backdrop. The association will be a great platform for people to have a say in the harbour's future."
Anyone wishing to attend the meeting should contact him on 01305 786930.
