A PUB band will be rocking all over Weymouth in a record-breaking attempt to raise money for charity - by playing the same song in 30 different venues.
The members of Methane 57 hope to make the winter of '05 as memorable as the summer of '69 as they prepare for a mammoth live music challenge.
Playing 'til their fingers bleed - as described in a famous Bryan Adams song - may seem a realistic possibility.
Their plan is to perform the Canadian rocker's classic anthem Summer of '69 at 30 different venues in Weymouth in 10 hours before playing at a scheduled evening gig at the Dorothy Inn.
The challenge, starting at noon on Friday, November 18, is in aid of Children in Need and the band hope to establish a world record at the same time.
They are appealing for help from the community to ensure the day goes smoothly.
Methane 57 guitarist Pete Smith, landlord of the Park Hotel in Grange Road, said: "We have two drummers, but setting up two kits at each pub will be time-consuming.
"So we're on the lookout for six drummers who can set up their own kits for us five times each throughout the day. "It means we'll be able to arrive and start playing pretty much straight away.
"We're also looking for venues to play, volunteers who can drive our PA equipment to each venue and for people who can help us collect money on the day.
"By attempting to establish a world record at the same time it will hopefully act as an incentive for people to get involved."
Newly-formed Methane 57 are made up of players from different pub bands.
Mr Smith said they chose to perform Summer of '69 because it's a popular tune.
He added: "This will be a good opportunity to raise money and also raise the profile of live music in Weymouth.
"The aim will be to play the song at three different venues in an hour, and if possible we'll play in pubs and clubs which don't usually have live music."
A spokesman for Guinness World Records urged the band to check out the website wwwguinnessworldrecords.com for advice on how to make a record attempt.
The spokesman said: "Every week we deal with thousands of queries about new records and we have to keep a standard across the world.
"There are records for playing music in a certain amount of time but if the band have any other ideas they're welcome to contact us."
German band Kansas City hold the record for playing the most concerts in 12 hours (26). A South African musician holds the 24-hour record (41). The record stipulates that each gig must be 15 minutes.
