CALLS are flooding in from Bournemouth residents worried by antisocial behaviour to a new action line set up to deal with the problem.

Police, council officers and head teachers have been patrolling the streets on Friday nights following calls made to the It's Your Call antisocial behaviour action line, launched on September 15 by Bournemouth council, Dorset police and the Home Office.

Many of the residents who have called the line have been concerned for their safety after seeing groups of youths hanging around, and the patrols have been particularly targeting these groups, trying to combat underage drinking and intimidating behaviour. Bournemouth council and Dorset police say they are treating all reported incidents as serious matters. Some have resulted in court action against antisocial yobs, investigations into numerous cases of drug dealing and helping young victims of bullying.

The council's antisocial behaviour co-ordinator, Jayne Robertson, said she hopes the line will continue to make a difference in people's lives.

"It's Your Call has given us a clearer picture of how to deal with the antisocial problems that are facing our communities," she said.

"The action line will continue to be up and running and any residents who need to report any antisocial behaviour that they see or have to deal with, including fly-tipping, drug dealing, vandalism or aggressive behaviour, shouldn't hesitate - call the number and let us know."

In 2004 to 2005, 13,500 incidents of antisocial behaviour were reported in and around Bournemouth, with the trouble hot spots named as West Howe and Boscombe.

The action line, 0845 605 2222, offers information, advice and access to services so that together, Bournemouth council and Dorset police can tackle antisocial behaviour in Bournemouth.
