A TEENAGE girl has admitted making a hoax bomb threat that led to the evacuation of hundreds of children from two Bournemouth schools earlier this month.

Poole Youth Court heard on Monday how the 15-year-old telephoned the reception at Kings High School at 11am on October 5 claiming there was a bomb in the school which was set to explode later that afternoon.

The school's 530 pupils were evacuated, as were hundreds of children from nearby Kingsleigh Primary School.

Prosecuting Louise Harvey told the court how police officers investigating the bomb threat arrested the teenage girl at 7.30am the next day, and in interview she admitted making the call on a mobile telephone.

Defending David Hurley said the youngster was "extremely remorseful for what she did on that day".

He added: "She did not give proper thought to the consequences of her actions.

She acted out of character, but she accepts full responsibility for what she did. She simply did not give it any thought."

Mr Hurley added that the girl had written a letter apologising to each of the schools for the bomb scare, which included an explanation for her actions.

"She is not a criminally minded young lady, she just made one mistake," Mr Hurley added.

Chief Magistrate Lesley Lubert told the court it was a "very, very serious crime" but she decided to adjourn the case until November 7 to allow the youth offending team time to file a report with more information about the girl.
