A NEWSAGENT was threatened with a shotgun by a masked man who attempted to rob his Poole shop.
The incident took place at M&J Stores in Winston Avenue, Branksome, around 4.30pm on Tuesday and the man made off empty-handed in a stolen car.
"The shop owner who was threatened - a 36-year-old Poole man - was shocked but wasn't injured and the weapon wasn't fired during the incident," said Det Insp Fiona Grant of Poole CID.
The gunman got into an F-reg grey Ford Escort saloon and drove off. It had been stolen from Wharfdale Service Road, Bournemouth, some time after 8am that day and was recovered in Morrison Avenue.
Police are looking for a 6ft tall man of slim build and are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or the car.
It is being examined for forensic evidence and Poole police are following up a number of lines of enquiry.
