SPEED cameras will be out in force and the Highways Agency has announced yet more roadworks on one of Dorset's most important roads.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the A31 as the roadworks at Corfe Millen finish, the news comes of resurfacing further east.

There will be overnight road closures, diversions and temporary speed limits on another stretch of the A31 at Tricketts Cross to bring the surface up to scratch.

And the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership will be conducting speed surveys on the Ringwood to St Leonards stretch in the next few months for analysis purposes.

Meanwhile, highways chiefs have issued a notice to the effect that work will take place over 12 nights over a three-month period from October 22.

Motorists will have to keep down to 40 mph - and that will drop to 10 mph at times.

The affected stretch of road is from two kilometres west of Palmersford roundabout at Tricketts Cross for about another kilometre to the east.

During the closure traffic will be diverted up to the roundabout up by Sainsbury's on the A347.

Highway engineer Guy Berresford said there would be no total closures and people would still be able to get through, using the diversions.

"We are doing it in the middle of the night so hopefully it won't affect many people," he said.

Although the order was for 12 nights over three months it should only take three nights.

"If it snows we won't be doing it, hence we give the three-month period. It will definitely be finished in that time."
