DORSET Safety Camera Partnership say they have no plans to provide instant photographic evidence on the web of motorists caught speeding.

Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Camera Partnership has launched the UK's first website to make speeding evidence available online.

Those clocked driving too fast or running red lights will now be sent details of the website and individual pin numbers with which to privately access the evidence against them online.

On the site will be photographs from the speed cameras and maps of the areas where offences took place.

At the launch the website was promoted as a further tool to educate motorists and reduce casualties on the road.

Software for the website was developed by Northgate Information Systems where sales manager Tim Brown said prices for the software would vary between police forces depending on volume of traffic.

Forces stand to save money on paperwork and the need to staff phones if the information is available online, he added.

Another police force is lined up for receiving the software and 17 police forces will be attending a conference on the scheme next week.

A spokesman from the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership said: "The Dorset Safety Camera Partnership (DSCP) has no immediate plans to launch an online function for drivers detected speeding to view photographs of the offence.

"It has always operated a range of activities and processes to ensure all practices are transparent, including a website (www.dorsetsafetycameras.org.uk).

"It is committed to providing prompt responses to queries on an individual basis.

"Further information and supporting evidence can be provided if the owner or keeper of a vehicle requires them to identify the driver at the time of the offence."
