ALEX Pike bemoaned his side's wayward finishing as his Hamworthy United side were surprisingly held to a draw at home to Hamble.

After falling behind in the first half, Hammers spurned a host of gilt-edged chances before Mickey Hubbard showed them the way with a fine equaliser.

It ensured they remain one of only four unbeaten sides in Wessex One and Pike, though despairing of the finishing, was happy to take the positives from the match.

He said: "If we had a striker in form then we would have finished Hamble off. It could have been 10-1 in the last 10 minutes alone.

"I don't know what the problem is but if it's a lack of luck then someone is going to get hammering soon. I've never had a side create as many chances but then never had one miss as many either!

"But we're still undefeated and no-one has managed to shut us out yet although if you were being negative, you could say we've dropped four points out of six now."

Hamble's opener came after a mix-up at the back and as Nick Hutchins was slow to react, the Hamble forward nipped in to fire home.

With the gusty wind at their backs after the restart, Hammers laid siege to the visitors' goal but it took an inspired substitution to make the breakthrough.

Hubbard replaced Jamie Moores and he had soon fired in a thumping effort from the edge of the box to level affairs.

Dan Cann and Kevin Gill were then guilty of glaring misses as a winner for the hosts proved elusive.

Pike added: "I'm sure we'll turn the corner. We're not losing matches and we're proving difficult to beat."

Hamworthy United: Hutchins, Wilson (Lucas 45), Gilbert, Williams, White, Tilley, Waldock, Legg, Gill, Cann, Moores (Hubbard 70). Unused subs: Warrington, Duvell.
