ANY mix album that kicks off with James Brown counting in Small Faces' psyched music hall masterpiece, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake, and segues into The Del Tones' ska-funk reading of Hot Pants is speaking the language of the righteous. Loudly.
The third instalment of Smith's deservedly acclaimed Document series keeps the quality control cranked right up as he skips, mixes, fuses and re-edits an almost bewildering array of good vibes in search of the perfect party mix.
I'll bet his school mates were chuffed to bits to get home-made compilation cassettes in the playground.
When he brings the whole shebang to a close with PP Arnold's Groovy, you know all is well in the future land of Mod.
