OOOOH... this could have turned out so badly. As it is, Hitchhiker's Guide is an acceptable adaptation which doesn't remove itself very far from the TV series or books.
Arthur Dent (Martin Free-man) wakes to find his house is about to be demolished to make way for a bypass. Though he doesn't know it, his friend Ford Prefect (Mos Def) is an excitable alien who's about to inform Arthur that the earth is to suffer a similar fate. The pair hitch about the spacecraft that destroys our favourite blue-green planet and some nice space adventures ensue.
If anything, the film uses too much dialogue from previous incarnations, but there's nothing here to really groan about.
