SPECIALIST search teams examined a wreck off Swanage in the hope of finding two missing divers.

Sonar equipment was used during the detailed study yesterday in an effort to find out what happened to the divers, both presumed dead.

Linda Pembroke, 48, of Wales and 22-year-old Mark Steel of Daventry went missing in two separate incidents during dives on the wreck of the Kyarra, off Anvil Point.

The wreck is listed as one of the top 25 best dives in Britain and attracts divers from all over the world.

Dorset Police employed a specialist team from a private company which has previously been used by other police forces for similar searches.

The results of the search, carried out in near-perfect conditions, have not yet been announced.

"An assessment will be made as to the next course of action, depending on what the study reveals," said a spokesman for Dorset Police.

Linda Pembroke failed to surface following a dive on Thursday, August 4.

Her family placed a death notice in the Shropshire Star newspaper in which they thanked lifeboat crews, coastguards and police who searched for her.

Mark Steel was spotted emerging from the water six feet away from a dive boat on August 22.

By the time the boat turned to pick him up he had gone under the water again and disappeared.

Circumstances surrounding both incidents have been reported to the British Sub Aqua Club, which will give advice to other agencies such as the Maritime Coastguard Agency and the RNLI if it concludes that lessons can be learned.
