DAVE Wakefield bemoaned his side's finishing as his search for a first league win as Bashley manager goes on.

The Bashley player-boss, who steered his men to FA Cup victory at the weekend, was left disappointed after his side were held to a 1-1 draw at Newport IoW.

After another slow start from the New Forest club, they found themselves behind inside just three minutes.

But Richard Gillespie netted a fine equaliser with a bullet header from Neil Morant's cross early in the second half to get the visitors back on track and secure a point from their day trip to the Isle of Wight.

Wakefield said: "From getting the equaliser, we really should have gone on and won the game.

"We created more than enough chances to have scored five or six goals but we are missing a clinical edge to our game at the moment.

"We had a lot of the play and if there was going to be a winner, it really should have been us. But we just didn't take our chances when we needed to."

Wakefield had words of praise for Morant who turned in another star show at right wing-back.

Wakefield said: "Neil was absolutely outstanding again. He has got everything for that position. He has got the fitness, can cross the ball well and I'm sure he'll chip in with a few goals this season as well."
