A MOTHER watched in horror as a Coke can exploded inches from her teenage daughter's face.
Donna Dyer, 36, believes her 15-year-old daughter Stephanie could have been scarred for life after the can exploded for no reason.
The unopened tin had fallen over onto its side just before it suddenly split open lengthways, spraying Stephanie with Coca-Cola.
Mother-of-three Donna, of Columbia Road, said: "At first I thought it had been shaken and opened but the ringpull is still intact. It just exploded.
"It was so lucky it didn't catch Stephanie in the face, it could have scarred her for life.
"She was very upset and I am really shocked by it. I've never heard of anything like this happening and I want to warn other people to be careful."
A spokeswoman for Coca-Cola said they had already spoken with Donna and had put their consumer response procedure in process.
The company has sent her a container so she can return the can to them and will then be able to find out why it exploded.
"We will have a full investigation at the factory to find out what happened," she pledged.
"The consumer team will then follow the matter up with the consumer with a special letter that explains the analysis and agrees a reimbursement."
