NEW Forest detectives hunting a robber who held up a cashier at knifepoint before escaping with thousands of pounds from a New Milton betting shop have issued an e-fit and description of the suspect.
The hooded raider walked into the Coral bookmakers premises in Station Road at around 9.30pm on Wednesday and threatened the cashier who was alone in the shop.
After the cashier handed over money from the safe the robber made off on foot, heading north along Station Road, leaving his victim shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the robber who is described as Afro-Caribbean in appearance, in his 20s, approximately 6ft tall, of average build and clean shaven.
At the time of the robbery he was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, dark blue jeans and black trainers.
Officer in the case Det Con Steve Houston said: "This is an extremely unusual incident for New Milton and all possible lines of inquiry are being pursued."
"Anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the New Milton area between 9pm and 10pm that evening should get in touch."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Houston at Ringwood CID on 0845 045 45 45 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
