FIRST British feature based on the heart-warming children's classic.
Little orphan Heidi (Emma Bolger) is sent to the mountains to live with her grumpy grandfather (Max Von Sydow), whom she has never met before.
Over time, the girl and the old man grow to love another but their new-found love is shattered when Heidi's aunt (Pauline McLynn) sells her to evil Madame Rottenmeier (Geraldine Chaplin) as a companion for an invalid girl.
Heidi dutifully obeys, but the further she travels away from the mountains, the stronger the little girl's desire to return to her grandfather.
