THINGS were on the up for Death In Vegas. Released from a major label deal after 13 years, they put out Satan's Circus, a cracking album of electro-experiments then got ensnared in abortive sessions for Oasis' Don't Believe the Truth album.

It must have been some relief then for Richard Fearless to quit the sound desk in favour of the record decks, as even the most cursory listen to this fluid, inventive, graceful mix album will attest. The mix is deceptively simple, Fearless choosing tunes that sit neatly side by side rather than forcing strangers together with strong-arm beat-matching. Thus, selected DiV edits like Reigen, Natja and the mighty Heil Xanax come up beautifully alongside Alex Smoke's spacious Lost In Sound, Mathew Jonson's pulsing Typerope and Pele Bloss by the Wighnomy Bros.

It's all about the bleeps and the beats, but when Fearless allows the vocals in he does so with consummate style - witness the woozy exhortations of Dinky's Acid in My Fridge - proving electro doesn't have to be about freaking the crowd with protracted responses, it can be direct and cool.
