IT was a bittersweet week for Jackie Foster. She won £20,000 just six weeks after her daughter picked up £18,000 - and the day after her brother died.

Forty-nine-year-old Jackie from Poole struck it lucky at the town's Gala Club with a game called the Dream Ticket on Thursday, August 4.

Her 29-year-old daughter Kelly Wright from Branksome had already won with the same game on Thursday, June 23.

The pair have been going to bingo once or twice a week together for about nine years.

But on the Thursday Jackie was not keen to go as her brother, Peter Shaw, 41, had died the day before due to illness.

Kelly - married with two children, Rebecca, nine, and Dylan, five - said: "It was like he was looking down on us.

"She was umming and aahing about whether to go. She felt guilty but I said: 'You can't sit indoors moping. Your brother wouldn't want you to do that'."

Hairdresser employee Kelly has won a couple of hundred pounds before but Jackie had never won anything.

Kelly said: "I can't believe it. It hasn't really sunk in yet. It's like lightning striking twice.

"My husband Ray has gone out and bought a secondhand Land Rover Discovery and we bought the kids a present. But we aren't going to waste it - we're going to save it."

She believed her mother was going to do the same - after going on holiday, maybe to Spain, at the end of September.

The pair have been back to the Gala Club several times since their wins and plan to go again.

It has been a lucky couple of months for bingo-players from Poole as a 21-year-old man, Lloyd Joyce, won £53,164 on July 30 at the same club - while playing the game for only the second time.
