NOW listen up. Editors should be big. Big in Franz-type way. Pretty darned big then.

They have that Gang of Four/Psychedelic Furs/Berlin Bowie edge to their songs that come on with a head full of rushing angular charges and a mouth full of doomy words. There's also the ghost of Joy Division and even Bauhaus to negotiate.

Not that this is at all depressing, quite the opposite. Bullets is big enough to fill the sky, Munich is a passion tale gone askew, Blood has a chew on the pop biscuit and Lights juggles hooks and fire like an old pro.

The ideas are not all fully formed yet and some of the more slavering reviews you read of this debut will set the expectations bar unrealistically high, but The Back Room is a great debut album - Nick Churchill
