AN 11-year-old girl was seriously hurt last night after she collided with a car in Weymouth.

The girl, who comes from Weymouth, was taken to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, with serious leg and hip injuries following the collision in Radipole Park Drive near Weymouth Tennis Club.

She was detained in hospital overnight but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, said police.

A spokesman for Dorset Ambulance said Weymouth's cycling paramedic was the first on the scene at around 5.15pm and the hospital's trauma team were standing by on her arrival by ambulance at 5.45pm.

The driver of the vehicle, a blue Astra estate car, was described as 'shocked but unhurt'.

Police sealed the road off at the King Street roundabout and lower down near a section of speed bumps for more than four hours and there was heavy traffic congestion in the area.

PC Angus Wilson of Dorchester Road Policing Unit said today that he was appealing for witnesses to the accident.

He added that he also wanted to hear from anyone who saw the actions of the girl or the car before the accident.

Anyone who saw anything or who has any information should contact PC Wilson on 01305 222222.
